First Rice Processing and Packaging Factory Opens in Nangarhar

Local official in Nangarhar reported that the first rice processing and packaging factory was inaugurated in the province yesterday. Machines and technical equipment for the factory has been provided by United States Agency for International Development (USAID).  The factory is located in Behsod district of Nangarhar and will have the capacity to process five tonnes of rice per hour. Haji Ghulam Nabi, owner of the factory, said that his factory process 750 tons of rice each month. He added that the plans are to accelerate the process to 10,000 tonnes per year. Meanwhile Zabiullah Zamaray, secretary of Nangarhar provincial council,expressed support for establishment of such factories and added that the factory is very important for economic development of the province.  Provincial agriculture and livestock department said that the factory is a big achievement and stated that some 60 workers are employed in the factory.
