Heavy Snowfall Wipes out Houses and Wastes Cattle in Nangarhar

At least 400 houses were destroyed and more than 300 cattle were wasted as heavy snowfall hit Nangarhar. It is reported that hundred acres of agricultural fields were also buried under snow. A press release from Nangarhar governor’s office sent to Killid stated that heavy snowfall in Sherzad district destroyed 135 residential houses and wasted 250 cattle. The statement added that 65 families were displaced from Khogyani district to other safe parts of the province as freezing weather wasted tens of their cattle. Meanwhile 259 residential houses were destroyed and 50 cattle were wasted in Chirhar, Ghani Khail, Spen Ghar, Lalpor, Kot, Mohmand Dara, Bati Kot, Goshta, and Dorbaba districts due to heavy snowfall. Gulab Mangal, Nangarhar governor, has instructed provincial director of Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) to deliver assistance and relief to the affected families. Latest figures by ANDMA states that 100 people have so far been killed in avalanches triggered by heavy snowfall across the country.
