Officials at department of agriculture irrigation and livestock in Paktia said that saffron cultivation has increased this year compared to previous years. Walid Ahmad Tasal, head of agriculture irrigation and livestock department, said that distribution of saffron crocus bulbs, equipment and training of farmers on how to plant and collect saffron have been the main reason for 3 kg increase this year. Tasal added that they will introduce some Paktias’ farmers with Herat farmers for the purpose of sharing experiences. The International Taste and Quality Institute in the Belgian capital of Brussels named Afghanistan’s saffron the best in the world for the third year in a row in October 2016.
