President Ghani Requests Sami-ul- Haq to Arrange Peace Talks with Taleban

President Ashraf Ghani talked with chief of the Jamiat Ulema-i- Islami (JUI-S) Maulana Sami-ul- Haq by phone on Thursday and discussed over ways of restoring peace in Afghanistan. Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan Dr. Omar Zakhilwal, who met Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-S) chief Maulana Sami-ul-Haq at the Darul Uloom Haqqania for the second time in a month, said he facilitated the Ghani-Sami phone contact. Zakhilwal’s meeting with the JUI-S chief was part of a move by Kabul to engage Pakistan’s political leaders in efforts to improve relations between the two countries and to push for the peace process. JUI-S provincial chief and spokesperson Maulana Yousaf Shah said the two discussed a range of issue during the talk that lasted for half an hour. “The Afghan president said that he had deep affection for Maulana Sami-ul- Haq. He told the Maulana that various leaders of Afghan Taleban had studied at the Darul Uloom Haqqania in Akora Khattak and respected and considered Maulana Sami-ul-Haq as their teacher,” Maulana Yousaf Shah said. Maulana Sami-ul-Haq underlined the need for the Afghan and Pakistani governments to resolve their differences through dialogue.
