US president-elect Donald Trump has rejected as “ridiculous” a CIA assessment that Russian hackers tried to sway the election in his favour. According to American Press news agency, Trump refused to believe the CIA’s findings, saying on Sunday: “Nobody really knows, and hacking is very interesting. Once they hack, if you don’t catch them in the act you’re not going to catch them. They have no idea if it’s Russia or China or somebody. It could be somebody sitting in a bed some place.” On Saturday, intelligence officials said it was not until the week after the election that the CIA altered its formal assessment of Russia’s activities to conclude that the government of President Vladimir Putin was not just trying to undermine the election, but had also acted to give one candidate an advantage. The news agency reported that in an interview with Fox News on Sunday, Trump said that CIA’s assessment was just another excuse for his stunning defeat of Hillary Clinton and added that every week it’s another excuse. This comes as US president Barack Obama has ordered a full-scale review of campaign-season cyber-attacks to be completed before he leaves office in January.
