The Independent Election Commission (IEC) said dates for parliamentary and district council elections will be announced in the next two months. Officials said three committees set up to assess legal, financial, and operational implications will consider findings and the IEC announce the date for parliamentary and district council election. The polls were due last summer but due to the delay in electoral reforms it has not been held yet. The term of the Wolesi Jirga (lower house of parliament) has been extended by presidential decree. The decree issued in July last year stated that members will continue as people’s representatives until the holding of election and appointment of new representatives.
