Provincial officials in Helmand want residents to cooperate with the government in curbing land grabbing. Hayatullah Hayat, governor of Helmand, raised the issue with a delegation chaired by the advisor to the president, Qamaruddin Shenwari. The press release added that the governor has asked the people to share their dossiers regarding land grabbing and other violations with the panel. This follows reports by local officials that more than 365,000 acres of lands were illegally taken over in Helmand in the past 14 years. President Ghani has ordered all provincial governors to take back land that has been illegally occupied and bring the grabbers to justice.
