Because of strict security procedures in Kabul and the provinces, parliamentary elections began at 7:00 am, this morning.

Because of strict security procedures in Kabul and the provinces, parliamentary elections began at 7:00 am, this morning.

In the early hours of elections, the numbers of voters were low.

Head of Independent Elections Commission Fazel Ahmad Manawi formally cast his vote at 7 am in the presence of reporters and many observers.

An observer of the Free and Fair Election Foundation of Afghanistan Mohammad Asif claimed that the voting process is normal and has encountered no problems.

The police and other security forces on roads and electoral centers of the capital and provinces are observing strict security measures for the elections.

According to the Ministry of Interior Affairs, 110,000 police are assigned to ensure security for the elections.

The spokesman to the Ministry of Defense Affairs General Zahir Azimi told that the Afghan National Army offered to cooperate with the police.

In a news conference, General Blotz, spokesperson for ISAF, said their soldiers are willing to help Afghan security forces.

The voting process is expected to continue until four in the evening. There are 2500 candidates in the parliamentary elections, including 249 women. 249 people will be elected to the parliament.
