The program has been on air for nearly two years and continues to be one of the most popular radio programmes in the country.

The idea for the programme started with a series of roundtable discussions produced and broadcasted by Radio Killid in the lead up to the Presidential elections of 2004.

The purpose of the programme is to produce a public record of Afghanistan ‘s recent history, giving all those who participate in the programme a chance to openly share their perspectives and experiences in a way that has never been attempted before.

Our goal for 2007 is to continue producing and broadcasting “Afghanistan in the Last Four Decades”, broadcast it nationally (using Radio Killid’s newly acquired national broadcast capacity), compile the already aired programmes into a multi-CD collection for widest physical distribution and dissemination via local partner community radio station and the state owned Radio Afghanistan, thereby maximizing the audience reach of the programme and its impact.

To further maximize the programs reach and impact, we are planning to compile the discussions into a multi-volume book, which we hope to make available in Dari, Pashto, Arabic, Urdu, English, French, Russian and German, and other languages. Initially we thought we would publish in Dari and Pashto ( Afghanistan ‘s national languages) and distribute in Afghanistan , but considering the historical and academic value of the book, we have decided to publish and distribute it internationally, in as many languages as possible.

To listen to the programme, tune into Radio Killid Kabul (88 FM) on Thursday at 17.00 and Saturday at 20.00. To listen to a repeat broadcast, tune into 88 FM on Tuesday at 9 AM.
